<p class="BodyText">I&#8217;m out of my office this week on a short break before starting out the New Year. During my travels, I typically stop off at this one clothing retailer when I&#8217;m up this way. I like what they have to offer and their clothes are the perfect thing for just hanging out.</p>
<p class="BodyText">To my dismay, I walked into this store yesterday and saw only two or three racks of left-over clothes in an otherwise empty store. There were signs announcing magnificent savings on everything, but not one saying they were closing up shop.</p>
<p class="BodyText"><span id="more-82"></span>As I walked further along that strip of stores, I saw those all-too-familiar signs of &#8220;Retail Space for Rent&#8221; where I had known there to be great restaurants, gift shops, and other retailers just a few months ago.</p>
<p class="BodyText">What kept me up all night was knowing that I had answers for each and every one of these stores that could have prevented them from closing or going out of business.</p>
<p class="BodyText">In fact, I know that most of these places did NO marketing what so ever and just lived off the walk-by traffic they received. When things started to slow down, they had no way to reach their customers because they had no mailing list and had no idea even how to do such a simple thing.</p>
<p class="BodyText">So they suffered and hung on as long as possible before throwing in the towel.</p>
<p class="BodyText">If only they had taken the time to <strong>build a simple mailing list</strong>. They could have sent out a simple postcard to past customers letting them know about any number of specials they could offer. While this alone may not have been enough, without a list, you don&#8217;t have any shot of saving your business.</p>
<p class="BodyText">They could have <strong>rented</strong> their list to other businesses, done <strong>cross-promotions</strong> and would have had a powerful bargaining tool for<strong> joint-ventures. </strong></p>
<p class="BodyText">In fact, these businesses would have had several powerful shots at keeping the doors open and even seeing <strong>growth</strong> in their business at a time when so many others are struggling and losing the battle altogether.</p>
<p class="BodyText">And, <strong>for less than $20</strong> they could have discovered how to do all of this. I just couldn&#8217;t sleep last night.</p>

<p class="BodyText">Then I thought about <strong>YOU</strong> and <strong>YOUR BUSINESS</strong>. Do you have a list? Do you know what to do with your list? Do you know how to create a low-cost postcard that will get response?</p>
<p class="BodyText">Sadly, most business owners have no clue about any of this stuff. Many go about their day hoping that people find them.</p>
<p class="BodyText">On the other hand, the more successful businesses are pulling out all the stops, they are contacting their lists more and more, and they are making new, fresh, fun offers and are seeing results. Many are seeing growth right now, today.</p>
<p class="BodyText">Take <strong>Amazon.com</strong> While just about every other retailer was seeing a decrease in sales this holiday season, Amazon.com saw sales <strong>INCREASE</strong> by 17% over last year.</p>
<p class="BodyText">In fact, on December 15th, 2008, they report that they sold a whopping <strong>6.8 MILLION</strong> items! This in just one day!</p>
<p class="BodyText"><strong>Why? How?</strong></p>
<p class="BodyText">Simple. They keep promoting. They keep re-inventing the business they are in. They add new product lines, they make shopping fun, and they don&#8217;t put any of their attention on what the media says about a sagging economy.</p>
<p class="BodyText">Keep your eyes on what you want, and get the training programs that have the answers you seek in your hands now. It&#8217;s the fast, cheap way of getting the answers that will save your business.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Now that you know things are going to be very, very different this year than they have been in years past, what are you going to do about it?</p>
<p>You can&#8217;t go forth thinking that you&#8217;ll just keep doing what you&#8217;ve done and hope to get better results. You know better than that.</p>
<p>So what&#8217;s your plan?</p>
<p>Close up shop and wait for calmer seas?</p>
<p>Find creative solutions to get more people to buy from you?</p>
<p>For the most part, the vast majority of small business owners simply cross their fingers and wait for customers to wander in the front door.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m away from my office this week, and was sitting in a store chatting with the owner about her plans for the New Year. Her answer?</p>
<p>She had no idea and was simply waiting to see how tough things would get.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s not an answer!</p>
<p>A better, smarter approach is to improve your marketing skills. To find better ways of getting inside a prospect&#8217;s head by understanding how they make a buying decision.</p>
<p>Then, take that knowledge and put it to use in every marketing piece, every e-mail message, every communication you have with any prospect anywhere.</p>

<p>That seems the be the big question this week from friends and relatives. Are you done with your shopping yet?</p>
<p>I like to think you never really finish your gift shopping, and in fact I do like to offer gifts to people all year long because of great it makes me feel inside.</p>
<p>While I know you&#8217;re likely running yourself ragged chasing sales, and beating the crowds, remember that the real gift is that you took the time to care.</p>
<p>You care about what you&#8217;re giving: is it the right size, color? Will they use it?</p>
<p>You care about the person you&#8217;re giving the gift too, as you picture them in your mind with a smile from ear to ear when they open their gift &#8211; the very gift you spent all that extra time searching for.</p>
<p>Every year, it&#8217;s always so great to see how this simple act of giving literally changes everything in our society. People tend to be more friendly to you, there are more smiles eagerly shared between complete strangers, and there is that &#8220;Holiday Spirit&#8221; that is so powerful, if you stop for a moment, you can actually feel it.</p>
<p>I often wonder what our world would look like if we could enjoy the Holiday Spirit energy all year long.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s most interesting to me is that we are all givers at heart. There is not greater joy in life than being able to do something that makes somebody smile, it even for a moment.</p>
<p>I want to give you something here that you can use, right now, and for the rest of your life that will immediately improve how you feel, every single time.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s so simple, most people reading this won&#8217;t bother even trying it, but if you&#8217;re the one out of a hundred who will give it a try, I know you&#8217;ll be very happy with the results.</p>
<p>The idea is not new, it&#8217;s not something you haven&#8217;t heard before, and right now, it&#8217;s more important than ever that you put it to use.<br />
Simply put, do something nice for somebody you care about as often as you can. For me that means doing something nice several times a day, not just around the holidays, but every day of the year.</p>
<p>It could as simple as smiling brightly at a total stranger, giving them the universal &#8220;You&#8217;re Alright Just The Way You Are&#8221; sign we all crave deep inside to hear.</p>
<p>It could be a simple e-mail comment to say that I noticed when that person did something great.</p>
<p>I could be a hug, a gift, or in my case, a missing piece of the puzzle for a business owner who finds themselves stuck or unable to get to the next level.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not suggesting you give it all away, just a little note here, a smile there, a few kind words over there, and then step back and notice how it makes YOU feel when you do these things.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ll find that it does wonders for you, and if you understand the true path to success, you&#8217;ll understand that nothing is more important in life than how you feel.</p>
<p>And there is no more empowering feeling than that of having put a smile on somebody&#8217;s face. Try it, today, right now. Do something to make somebody smile.</p>
<p>Just know that this little habit can become very addicting!</p>
<p>You are incredible and on track to make all your dreams come true!</p>
